The play is set in the study of Dungavel Castle, in the Western Highlands of Scotland. The action takes place in the present day, and covers a period of around 10 months from February to the following Christmas Eve.

We don't have any information about this play save what can be gleaned from the programme itself. Unfortunately the helpful (from an archivist's point of view) practice of providing programme notes, which have been a feature over recent years, appears to have been discontinued. I note, however, that the production introduces no less than four new acting members, plus a new producer and further new helpers behind the scenes.

While we have no pictures of the production, we do have (by courtesy of the Fairlight W.I.) a picture of the interior of the hall as it looked in July 1964. This shows quite vividly what a cosy affair these early performaces must have been. The exit doors appear to be in the centre of the back wall of the hall (i.e. the road end). Presumably this door was blocked up when the doctor's surgery was added, and the new exit created through the extension which houses the kitchen and the toilets.

The picture records the visit of the Happy Circle club from Fulham, so if you are wondering why you don't recognise anybody, or why one or two chaps appear to have infiltrated the ranks of the W.I., that will probably explain it.
