This play is notable as the first appearance
on the Fairlight stage for Sue Trueman, who was to become
indispensable to the Players for her contributions both on and off stage, and also Joy Wren.
Edna Banger, who played the piano during the very first Players performance
in 1951, makes a come-back, on this occasion sharing the music with Herbert Port. The
cast also included three youngsters, although it appears that four
were cast, with two sharing the role of Kathleen (Scrap) Kenton.
The play, which is set in North
Essex in the 1930s, was well received by capacity audiences, as the
article below clearly shows. One wonders whether
Mr. Gelder, the writer of the previous review (Spring 1973) was in
the audience. Probably not. |
