The action takes place in Room 12 of a French hotel near the German border on an October evening in the mid-1970s.

A Bedfull of Foreigners was first performed at the Ashcrift Theatre, Croydon, in 1974 with Terry Scott as Stanley Parker, Lynda Baron as Simone, and Richard Marner as Karak.

June Whitfield subsequently joined the cast as Helga when the play moved to the Victoria Palace, London.
