Review
The Village Hall was warm as usual, yet an uncanny chill went through
the hall, the curtains moved but the windows were not open. People
shivered, goose bumps were rising but for no apparent reason.
What
was going on? The Ghost Train was approaching and the spooky atmosphere
was brilliantly conjured up by the Fairlight Players in their latest
production which was skillfully directed by David Burchell.
This
play was written by the late Arnold Ridley, better known as Private
Godfrey in Dad's Army. It is very cleverly written combining a ghostly
mystery which is designed to cover up very real criminal activities.
The Players clearly had a grasp of this rather complicated plot with
its unexpected twists and turns. The Players pulled off this
drama/comedy to great effect keeping the audience on the edge of their
seats and also laughing hysterically at times.
Two cast members
made their Fairlight debuts in this production. Jake Huggett did an
excellent job as the newly married Charles Murdock, while a young Amber
Rampling delivered a mature and accomplished performance as the timid
and vulnerable Julia, who turned out to be anything but.
The set,
lighting and sound effects were cleverly done and created the
atmosphere of a haunted, deserted country railway station late at
night. Stay there on your own if you dare!
Thank you Players, cast and crew for yet another wonderful production which gave us all who viewed it, such enjoyment.
