My Hobbies

by Doris Fenner

Pearl diving
Diamond mining
Belly dancing in a grass skirt

Up until now, these have been a guarded secret. They may seem a little strange for a lady of my advancing age but I do like a bit of spice and glamour to look nice.

I dive like a fish without the batter,
But to collect my pearls it doesn't matter.
The sea is warm and exciting,
The coloured weeds are so inviting,
When I surface, the natives greet me with open arms.
I've got to be honest, I quite fancy their charms.
I do a bit of belly dancing, swishing my skirt,
Attracting the fellows, I'm a bit of a flirt!

Diamonds are a girls best friend.
Mining them sends you round the bend,
However, the reward gives me more to spend.
The mine's working well, all safe and sound
I jump in my helicopter and lift off the ground.
Storm ahead! the clouds are dark,
Lightning strikes me like a gigantic spark,
I'm in trouble and I'm falling fast,
Swirling and whirling I get flash-backs of my past.

CRASH!. I'm in bed and I've overslept!.

I'd better get up and cut the grass, do the weeding and gardening
MY REAL HOBBY ...
The old man will be home soon,
I'll give him some peaches and cream,
That's the nearest I'll get to an exotic dream.
