Holidays?    Retiringly Too Busy!

by Keith Jellicoe

Work? Please tell me - what's that?
Something long ago – that's a fact!

Probably most Fairlighters don't go to work
but unfortunates that do we are sure don't shirk.

For us it's family, gardening, local clubs, groups &....gardening...
no time for unused muscles...hardening!

In between there's Parish meets about local stuff
with planning matters but so little time to get the huff

for its onto outings with occasional shows in London town
or our own Players' too with we expect you know - the clown!

But this year joining Responders' Open Gardens goings on
with flower and veg tending pre summer long

with daft Secret Garden and house paint needing a spruce
little time to relax with gin and tonic -hic! - or juice!

'Your garden - what company does it? one visitor did ask
that's our joke..but worth it all raising funds for a 'hearty'... task

Luckily now long ago the Quad By Pass
just keep taking the tablets - no sitting around on one's,..... grass!

Then there's those other tablets, Lap Tops, Nexus & games of fun
like remote scrabble with friends - often a strangely spelt wun!

Of course there's Cine & Camcorder film & Photos.. tons to edit
phone pics as well... the electronic age ..who us ? You said it!

Phew after all that a drink perhaps but no time to booze
lots more goings on with even more village doos

but we hear for the closed up Cove... a pause
surely Tea teetotaller Fairlighters not the cause?

Meanwhile family growing Grand parents duties to perform
with occasional visits – Kent ,West Sussex & Dorset's Wimborne.

Lots to do with toys to make
celebrations too with cakes to bake.

Where from? Family tree searching-relations found-
lost & new- Suffolk, Devon with research in Lancashire Eire & Scotland too & the Admiral's connection looking sound.

Holidays to the U.S long ago, we’ve had, including New York
return overdue to meet new nieces & a Grand Central Park Walk!

But then its great here in Fairlight with many a new scene
plus Olde World Rye and Battle, our lucky Village set between

and of course lively Hastings refreshed with new coats of paint
funfair & crazy golf a-swirling & Old Town shops, so quaint.

Sparkling sea and rounded shingle, evershifting with the waves
looked down by ancient castle and eerie, hidden, caves.

Many Fish Huts black & tall, often plus boat & its paraphernalia
with courageous crew awaiting tide to take the helm & sail her.

Again overlooked from ragged Firehills of rocks and trails
to Fairlight energetics walk via Nudist beach but sorry - no tales!

Then soon a-coming there's new pier, & marvellous Link Road
(I say, as ex Engineer Highways, the Ridge - surely not slowed?)

So from East Sussex looking out with views to France - Oh Le'!
Forget it and those new flights from enlargend Lydd we say.

As no time for breaks - but what's this - just have a glance.
Oh dear - a great Warner's offer with cooked brekers' & dance!

Indoor pool, Super! and look.... that splendid dining....
goodness......already stomach somewhat pining.

Live entertainment, marvellous gardens (by others tending!),
historic venue for... perhaps ….maybe....a little while spending?

We could leave behind Gardener's World & Car Magazines
there only there to aid one's dreams,

and just do those things that others do... lets see
read books, newspapers and forget early dozing to evening TV

for best of all........the cost's quite good and not much to pay...
So why not? forget the weeds – lets go.... wa'hay!

Who was it who said....
We' d never do a......
…........Holiday!
