St. George & The Dragon

by Felicity Bullock
This poem was written in response to the group's quarterly challenge to write an original poen on a given subject.

St George, St George,
Where are you St George.
There is a damsel in distress
The dragon is prowling around
Looking for a fair maid
And threatening our princess.
What should we do,
O what should we do,
To save our princess?

We have done all we can
And given him something to eat
But he wants more,
Yes, he wants more,
We have nothing left to give.
Our dear beloved princess
We cannot let him have.
O what can we do?
Help us, O St George.

The gallant St George
Rides to the rescue
From the mouth of the dragon
To save our princess.
O brave St George
What will you do?
He rides out to face
That dragon so fierce
And slays him with one blow.

St George, St George,
How grateful we are St George
For our saving our princess.
Now the dragon is no more
We shall be safe
O we shall be safe
And rest in our beds
Ever thankful to God
For what you have done.
