Summer Awakening

by Keith Jellicoe

As slowly from dreams escapening
comes East view with my oh so early awakening
to bring distant horizon sea aglistening
& near silent sounds without alistening.

A sudden swooping flock, wings a-shone, glint, transparent
catching morning's brilliant sun, so so apparent
against surrounding leaf-top greenness so fully arrogant.

Fox arounding just baled fields
already ahunting after night times meals
distant bahs with jumping youngsters playing fool
their parent likely hoping soon winters wool
they will quickly lose
whilst off to milk Jerseys deliver their ardent moos.

Nearer Mrs Doe ears a-twitch nibbles tasty swords in dipping furrow
whilst bunny youngsters hop & play...whence asudden dart back safe to burrow
brought from westward gust sets breezed treetop aquivering
& multitude of Crows thereon delivering
their excited flights to glide & dance
with black profiles clear against bright morning sky's abundance.
They showing off smart prowess
before quick return to branch for rest.

Smaller birdcalls of foreground young awaiting results of search
of parent's forever diving from secret hidden perch
for moist ground feeds their youngsters' menue'd tastes deserve
which keen eyed pecking will with rigour quickly serve.

Such simple sights & sounds, such gentle pleasures
hopefully forever bringing us Happiness, from these forever marvellous Treasures.
