The
action takes place in a Portuguese time-share apartment, where a
first-class cock-up by the managing agents has resulted in the property
being let to two couples simuntaneously. Add a short-sighted and
permanently tipsy company Rep, some hanky panky, and a surprise visitor
or three, and stage is set for a hilarious evening of confusion,
mistaken identity, subterfuge and general mayhem. Despite losing a
key cast member through illness just days before curtain up, the
Players pulled off yet another brilliant performance which had the
audience aching with laughter.
There were strong performances
from the whole cast, but it is fair to say that Roland Garrad, in his
50th role on the Fairlight stage, excelled as Commander "Chitto"
Chittenden. It was great to see Jim Saphin treading the boards again
after an absence of several years, and Marion Pollard saved the day by
reading the part of Celia Partridge (or was it "Plover" or "Penguin?). |
